El Casal Association

This mural is the only mural painted in my hometown "Bellmunt del Priorat", a 300 habitants village located in the south of Catalonia. With this mural the village wanted to dignify the square where the social club is.

This has been a project of great impact for the town where residents have been able to participate and give their opinion on what they wanted to see represented in these murals.

As the theme of the mural, we wanted to talk about Bellmunt's identity and historical heritage. And that is why we called a previous meeting with all the residents of the village so that they could give their opinion on what could be the most important elements to represent in the final composition.

Bellmunt has a very interesting historical background, the whole village was expanded because of the mining colony, they found lead minerals in the soil and the whole village is excavated underneath. Later on, on the 1970s the mine close down and the residents of the village found their economy on agriculture, mostly in the vineyards.

We decided to divide the mural into mining tradition, and the profession of agriculture and the vineyard, past and present of the village of Bellmunt, identity and history.
