Marça's Tortoise

In the last 12 days I have been working on this giant mural, "La Tortuga de Marçà", a mural of more than 200 square meters which is located at the entrance of the village of Marçà, in the Priorat. This mural was a great challenge when creating the design, due to the amount and size of the building's windows and balconies, which had to be integrated into the drawing.

In the composition you can see different figures, characters and buildings that refer to the history and identity of the town, such as the bell tower of the cooperative or the "Pellissa's bridge". Also references to its local artists, Marcel·lí Giné and Lula Pérez, to whom the town has dedicated a museum, and still preserves a few public sculptures, such as "The Mermaid".

The turtle, the main element of the mural, refers to the old Mediterranean turtle interpretation center. A shelter for turtles currently inactive, located in Miloquera, a mountain close to the town. The mural also features the axolotl, an amphibian originally from Mexico that a village child discovered in the river. With this figure we vindicate the importance of conserving ecosystems and the dangers of introducing invasive species.

I would like to thank the City Council of Marçà for entrusting me with this important task and the painter Naomi Agius, who has been my assistant for 4 days of work.
